I used it on my trunk lid after the old paint was completely stripped. This product is awesome. It not only removed the surface rust but revealed small pinhole rust throughs that I did not know were there. WebDec 31, 2024 · Sand through the rust spots down to the bare metal, using 40-grit sandpaper. Enlarge the sanded area so you’ll have space to feather the edges. Switch to 120-grit sandpaper to feather the edges of the repair area. Complete the feathering with 220 grit. Use a tack rag to remove particles from the unmasked area. Family Handyman.

The pinholes are rust working it's way through the sheet metal from the other side, meaning there will be a lot more rust hidding inside than can be se from the outside. The lip look like there have already been some welding/repairs done to that area of the quarter panel.

You might try POR-15 2 part epoxy filler, which cures hard as a rock and waterproof, or even (GASP!) POR-15 "spot putty", which is thick POR-15 in a tube.
